How To Sell Your Music And SFX On Game Asset Stores

Game assets include everything that can go into a game, such as 2D or 3D models, sound effects, music, code snippets, modules, and sometimes even complete projects that can be used by a game engine. If you’re a video game sound designer or music composer, you no doubt have unused sound effects or soundtracks sitting on your computer. Why not try selling them online to people who could use them? You never know, a game developer might buy and use them in one of their games.

Game asset stores will typically take a cut in the revenue if sold. You will need to register for an account on these game asset marketplaces and sometimes may even need to fill out an additional application to get accepted onto their stores. We've put together a list of companies (click on company names) that have asset stores on where you can join to sell your creations.

GameDev Market

Music, SFX

About: "We’re a small team of aspiring game developers based in the UK. We found that when it came to learning game development, we couldn’t find anywhere to buy high quality assets for our projects. There were asset stores specific to certain game engines, huge generic stock websites with an overwhelming catalogue of assets of varying quality and smaller indie stores with small selections of very niche assets. We tried sourcing assets from so many different websites that there was no consistency in our games, and it become difficult to keep up with the different licences to the point where we weren’t sure if I could even release our games or not. This fragmentation created a huge barrier to entry for us when all we wanted to do was actually learn some game development."
